Overview:
To be responsible for all repairs and tasks designated by Rig manager, control all compressed gases used and be numerically proficient
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain stock levels of steel, welding rods and reduce wastage.
Ordering correct steel if required
QHSE Responsibilities:
To understand the PTW system and know safe and unsafe welding areas.
Develop JSA’s for area of operation and review existing for correctness of task.
Understand compressed gasses used.
Ensure all PPE is in good condition and used correctly.
Participate in the stop/Star system at rig.
Ensure housekeeping is always adequate around the welding shop and area.
Ensure no homemade tools are fabricated at the rig.
Operational:
Functionally cut casing.
Weld on starter heads
Perform routine repairs around rig as instructed.
Produce and understand drawings of modifications being made to the rig.
Maintain all welding shop material to a safe and usable standard.
Maintain clean and tidy metal storage area.
Pre-plans for upcoming casing or starter head operations
Responsible for general fabrication and repair work that requires welding or torch cutting.
Works closely with mechanical, electrical, and drilling departments.
Fabricates and fits equipment, structures, tools, etc.
Maintains supply of oxygen and acetylene bottles and informs the Rig manager of
any irregularities found.
Performs maintenance of welding tools, leads and cutting hose.
Training
Training in manual handling and lifting techniques.
Holds a current gas testing certificate.
Has current training in H2S.
Has training in use of hand tools, cutters, and grinders
QUALIFICATIONS:
Training proficiency to at least 6G or ASME 9
Holds a technical training certificate from college or university
2 years of experience
Skills & Knowledge
Ability to read and understand drawings.
Understands metal compositions and types of steel to be welded.
Ability to design and build items as required by the operation
