Overview:
To supervise and coordinate the activities of roustabout crews in maintaining rig site cleanliness, handling equipment, and supporting drilling operations. Ensures safe working practices, efficient use of resources, and compliance with company QHSE policies. Provides leadership and guidance to roustabouts, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Responsibilities:
Monitor and control the use of rig consumables, tools, and materials to minimize wastage.
Ensure proper handling and storage of rig equipment to reduce damage and unnecessary replacement costs.
Report discrepancies in supply usage or losses to the Tool pusher/Driller.
Support preventive maintenance schedules to extend the life of rig assets.
Assist in planning logistics for supply deliveries to avoid delays and optimize costs.
QHSE Responsibilities:
Lead by example in enforcing MS requirements and company safety policies.
Ensure roustabout crews use PPE correctly and consistently.
Conduct regular safety briefings and toolbox talks with the crew.
Identify unsafe practices or hazards and take immediate corrective action.
Participate in emergency drills (fire, spill response, evacuation) and ensure crew readiness.
Maintain proper housekeeping standards around rig site, walkways, and storage areas to prevent accidents.
Operational:
Supervise roustabout crews in daily rig maintenance, housekeeping, and support tasks.
Coordinate loading and unloading of supply vessels, trucks, and helicopters.
Ensure proper lifting techniques and safe use of rig cranes and winches.
Oversee the cleaning and organization of rig decks, walkways, and storage areas.
Support drilling operations by assisting floor crew and derrickman when required.
Ensure tools, equipment, and chemicals are stored correctly and returned after use.
Monitor weather and site conditions to adjust crew activities safely.
Business Planning / Continuous Improvement / Organization Efficiency:
Pre-plan crew activities to align with drilling schedules and rig operations.
Ensure equipment and tools are returned to storage in good condition and ready for reuse.
Suggest improvements in rig site efficiency, logistics, and crew task allocation.
Participate in planning meetings to anticipate supply needs and operational support requirements.
Document lessons learned from crew performance and share with supervisors for continuous improvement.
People Management:
Motivate and discipline roustabout crews to maintain a productive workforce.
Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to new or less experienced roustabouts.
Communicate performance issues to Tool pusher/Driller and recommend corrective actions.
Promote teamwork, discipline, and a positive safety culture among crew members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient written and spoken English
Basic numeric literacy
Training in rig operations and safety procedures
Preferred: Certificate in rig operations or supervisory training
Knowledge of a second language
Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of safety policies related to rig operations, chemical handling, and emergency response
Ability to coordinate logistics and crew activities efficiently
EXPERIENCE :
Prior rig experience as Roustabout with proven leadership ability
Understanding of rig maintenance, housekeeping, and supply handling
Strong safety awareness and ability to enforce compliance
Ability to supervise and motivate crews effectively
