Overview:
Assist the Chief Electrician with the operation, maintenance, and repairs of all rig-associated electrical equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Responsibilities:
To assist in maintaining the integrity of all electrical equipment to a high standard
Carry out sufficient maintenance to prevent NPT to the rig during operations.
QHSE Responsibilities:
Conducts operations in a safe manner according to policies and procedures.
Observes correct rig operating procedures, noting unsafe practices.
Plays an active part in HSE meetings, toolbox meetings, and all other company safety management systems.
Is proficient in STOP for employees and uses its techniques.
Ensure all safety devises and Emergency equipment is available in SCR/VFD houses.
Ensures LOTO practices are followed.
Proficient in PTW process
Operational:
Required to assist in:
Operate, maintain and repair main and emergency generator.
Maintain transformers.
Maintain and repair high voltage switch gear.
Operate switchboard controls.
Control power in emergency.
Maintain and repair D.C. motors.
Maintain and repair AC motors.
Maintain and repair across the line or reduced voltage motor starters.
Install, troubleshoot and repair control systems.
Repair BOP electrical control and control system.
Repair sewage plant (where applicable)
Repair hot water heaters (potable).
Maintain and repair washing machines and dryers (laundry).
Maintain and repair hazardous area fixtures.
Maintain and repair florescent, incandescent and flood lighting.
Operate, maintain, and repair batteries and batteries charging equipment.
Ability to change plugs, receptacles.
Can perform Electrical isolation as required.
Maintain and repair all electrical components on Crane, Forklift, Genie lift, and rig Vehicles.
Operate, maintain, and repair refrigeration and air conditioning system.
Repair miscellaneous galley appliances and equipment.
Business Planning / Continuous Improvement / Organization Efficiency:
Has to keep good communications with the client representatives and make sure misunderstanding or bad communication does not develop when working on Rig.
Represent the Company in a professional manner both on and off the job to include confidentiality of Company and client business.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Industrial Electricians Certificate or equivalent or has adequately demonstrated to a supervisor through on the job experience the ability to perform tasks competently and safely as an Assistant Electrician.
Have obtained rescue training in emergency electrical situations.
Has been trained and full understanding of the LOTO process
Preferred: Sufficient level of English to communicate to rig management team.
Sufficient level of reading and writing English
Numerically proficient
Minimum 1 years’ experience of electrical work in the drilling industry.
Skills & Knowledge
Perform basic electrical power calculations.
Calculate common electrical qualities such as resistance, impedance, voltage, current, power factor, Voltage drop, VARS, etc.
Use General Electric shop hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and wire crimper, etc.
Use multi-meters, insulation test equipment, and oscilloscopes, K-bridge.
Perform tests such as insulation test, vibration tests, resistive load bank, dielectric absorption, measure electrolyte specific gravity, measure voltage, high potential tests, etc.
A full understanding of the PTW process.
