Job Title: Assistant Driller
Location: To be advised
Reporting To: Driller / Senior tool pusher/ Night tool pusher
Overview:
To operate and monitor all drilling systems and equipment under the supervision of the Driller, supervise all drill crew work activities, and complete appropriate drilling documentation to the satisfaction of the client and Company management, in compliance with applicable policies and regulations. To maintain the integrity of the operation. To actively participate in the development of personnel. Maintain and monitor all mud tank operations, well-control equipment, and crew competencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Responsibilities:
Determine means of improving efficiency and reducing costs where possible, investigate and take corrective action when required.
Ensure Maintenance is undertaken to rig floor equipment to maintain it in good working condition.
To always maintain and be in control of the rig floor and assets.
QHSE Responsibilities:
To lead through effective safety leadership by being personally responsible for the Implementation of MS requirements daily.
To ensure a safe working environment without harm to persons or the environment.
To address HSE issues at the time of their identification.
Ensure compliance with company HSE policies by all personnel, support personnel to take time out for safety, when necessary, and encourage employees to make safety suggestions.
Ensure that the permit to work system and other HSE management tools are used correctly.
Actively lead and participate in safety discussions, safety drills (like BOP shut-in), and regular inspections. (esp. Daily check on well control equipment / other safety equipment.
Operational:
Operate the drilling activities in accordance with safe, healthy control practices and in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
Supervises the drilling crew during drilling, casing, tripping, and rig move activities.
Operate in such a manner that results in achieving the operating plan and objectives, including but not limited to safety, client operating expectation, Client drilling curve, maintenance, and rig appearance/housekeeping.
Ensure operations are well known to the Drilling crew and pre-plans for upcoming operations.
Inspect the drilling unit and ensure all highlighted problems are addressed, maintained, and communicated during daily checks.
Ensure that all rig equipment within the area of responsibility is maintained in accordance with the Preventive Maintenance System to minimize NPT.
Full supervision during mud mixing and well control situations of junior crew.
People Management:
Assist the driller by ensuring a motivated, disciplined, and productive workforce, especially by being a good listener and reserving time to give feedback.
Provide supervision to all personnel to ensure a safe and professional level of performance, and promote continuous improvement and results.
Ensure that training is conducted whenever necessary during operations, including hands-on training.
Communication with the Driller with regard to nonperforming crew members.
Take immediate action on performance improvement issues and lead a positive culture for all operational issues.
Business Planning / Continuous Improvement / Organization Efficiency:
Ensure all work is performed within the requirements and guidance of the company’s MS system.
Responsible for the return of all equipment to its proper storage location in a condition where it is ready for use again, cleaned and serviced.
Review and pre-plan all upcoming operations for equipment and required tools, casing, Nipple up/down BOP.
Must ensure, in liaison with the Driller STP/NTP, immediate and detailed reporting in writing of any incident/accident or other operational problems to base in accordance withprocedure.
Especially in regard to damage to equipment and safety-related incidents.
Ensure all drill pipe, BHA, and casing tallies are correct before running in the hole.
BOP space out measurements and well control procedures are understood and posted.
Crews directed correctly in NU/ND BOP operations.
Ensure correct supervision for shakers and mud tanks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient in written and spoken English.
A valid IWCF or IADC Well Control Certificate to driller level,
Achieved a competency level of Assistant driller or Driller.
Numeric literacy.
Certificate of higher education or school degree.
2nd foreign language.
EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCE
The company primarily promotes its experienced Derrick man to this position. New hires will preferably possess current experience as an Assistant Driller.
Understanding the criticality of service quality to the company's reputation and process.
Demonstrate excellent safety leadership skills and lead by example.
Understands and can demonstrate the need for planning ahead and proactive activities undertaken in operations.
Know and be able to perform procedures for well control situations and guide the crew. Be proficient in well control and close-in procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to assist in the effective management of personnel and operations.
Skills & Knowledge
Be knowledgeable of all safety policies and procedures that pertain to his area of responsibility, including firefighting, emergency equipment, lifesaving equipment, and emergency response.
Effective people management skills, able to lead a team under pressure.
Must have relevant experience in well control issues, processes, and procedures
Facilitation skills to run the rig efficiently and effectively.
